An Emmy Announcement

Late last year, nine-year-old Parwana’s heart-wrenching story became emblematic of the tragic fate of increasing numbers of Afghan girls sold into marriage out of their starving families’ desperation.

CNN correspondents Anna Coren, Jessie Yeung and Abdul Basir Bina spotlighted Parwana’s case, chronicling her sale to a white-bearded man claiming to be 55 years old, in a segment featured on The Lead with Jake Tapper. The segment has just been honored with a News & Documentary Emmy for Outstanding Hard News Feature Story: Short Form. We sincerely thank Anna Coren and her whole team for shining a light on the devastating realities faced by women and girls in Afghanistan–ongoing assaults on their human rights, and a systematic campaign of violence and oppression.

Special thanks to Anna for mentioning TYTW in her acceptance speech! Click HERE to watch the video.

Thanks to the generous support of TYTW’s community members, Parwana and her family are supported alongside more than 8,000 other vulnerable Afghans through TYTW’s Parwana Food Security, Education & Livelihoods program, which provides case management and family sensitization on child marriage, food assistance to meet immediate needs, education programming for girls, and start-up capital and livelihoods training for families.

Thank you for standing by the girls and women of the world during this devastating time of mass rollbacks of their rights on a global scale.
