We are thrilled to announce the I_Rep Foundation (I am Responsible Foundation) as the recipients of Too Young to Wed’s inaugural Paula and Joe Schulte Grant! Created by TYTW’s Board of Directors in memory of founder Stephanie Sinclair’s beloved parents after the passing of her father in April of this year, the grant was presented to the I Rep Foundation’s founder Domtila Chesang earlier this week. The I_Rep Foundation was selected as the first-ever recipient for their tireless work protecting girls in Kenya’s West Pokot county from female genital mutilation (FGM) and child marriage in the wake of COVID-19. These grant funds will be used to start the I_Rep Foundation Safe Center, and purchase a motor bike for Domtila’s team to reach girls in rural communities who are at imminent risk of FGM and child marriage - especially now, the high season for girls to be married in West Pokot County.

It's especially important for Domtila to be supported now,

It is clear that, through her organization, Domtila puts her heart into her work. We feel supporting her mission is a wonderful way to honor my parents’ memory, as they unfailingly prioritized the needs of others above themselves.” -- Stephanie Sinclair, Founder TYTW.

Upon receiving the Paula and Joe Schulte Grant, Domtila sent us the following statement to share with TYTW’s supporters:

On behalf of [the] I_Rep Foundation family and the Pokot community, I would like to relay my sincere gratitude and appreciation, with great humility, for the immense support you have given towards our work. This partnership marks the beginning of a journey of transformation and great impact in the lives of girls and women. In the honour and respect of your amazing parents, may their souls rest in peace. This support will ensure timely support in the protection of girls at risk of FGM and child marriages, providing them with refuge and basic needs as every human deserves. Thank you so much.”
